The Gender & Protection Officer will be responsible for supporting and implementing minimum measures for mainstreaming protection as outlined by Humanitarian Principles, SPHERE Standards, and other Protection policies and guidelines. This role supports MACI’s operations in creating a ‘Safe Organization’ with zero tolerance for sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) of beneficiaries. The Gender & Protection Officer will collaborate with technical teams, including Programs, HR, and MEAL, ensuring that safeguarding and protection practices are robust.
Key Responsibilities
Capacity Building and Implementation:
Build staff capacity on protection and gender-related issues to enhance internal knowledge and expertise.
Ensure project activities are implemented with a gender-sensitive approach.
Facilitate equal participation of women and men, integrating community feedback into project implementation.
Monitor and measure GBV project implementation and manage effective information on GBV survivors.
Support the implementation of SGBV prevention and response programming, including monitoring activities.
Regularly meet with program teams to align programming with a gendered lens.
Community Engagement and Protection:
Establish and manage community-based protection mechanisms and activities.
Inform beneficiaries about basic requirements for obtaining a National Identification Number (NIN).
Organize community engagements to identify optimal schedules for enrolment activities.
Mobilize community leaders to advocate and provide attestations for beneficiaries.
Ensure Do No Harm principles are applied during field activities.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Represent MACI at gender-based violence and protection working groups.
Maintain effective relationships with local partners, government departments, and stakeholders.
Submit regular reports detailing progress, challenges, and follow-up plans.
Monitoring and Reporting:
Monitor enrolment activities and collect data on progress and beneficiary feedback.
Prepare and submit detailed reports to stakeholders, including NIMC and WFP.
Additional Duties:
Respond to flexible scheduling and logistics.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
Education: HND, BSc, BA, B.Tech, LLB, or equivalent from a recognized institution.
Experience: Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in the humanitarian sector.
Languages: Fluency in English and Hausa; knowledge of local dialects is an asset.
